Happy New Year // A Reflection On 2016

*I don't often write super personal posts but I just wanted to document this so please feel free to ignore and scroll on*

This time last year I had not long since made the gut-wrenching, terrifying decision to end a long term and very toxic relationship. Over a span of almost three years, my self esteem had plummeted and my anxiety was at an all time high. Whilst most people remember their student living fondly as a blur of nights out and house parties, all I can remember is having to sit outside the back door in the middle of the night (trying not to wake my housemates) because I couldn't breathe.

Long story short, I ended the relationship, got my head down and worked bloody hard. I set myself goals for my post-uni life and made an action plan I needed to follow to make shit happen. I ended up getting a job interview 80 miles away from where I lived, I finished my dissertation with a first, I got the call to say I got the job, I moved those 80 miles, I graduated, and here I am. I work for a fantastic company full of inspiring and creative people. I live in a beautiful flat in central Manchester with a human who makes everyday better than the last. I am happy. In fact, the only thing that could make my current situation any better would be a dog. So, if you're reading this and you're a long-haired miniature daschund looking for a room rent-free, hit me up.

I joke, but I'm heading into 2017 happier and mentally healthier than ever, and I guess I just wanted to document this because end-of-2015 me would never have believed that end-of-2016 me would be where I am now. If you read this and are struggling, I want to tell you that things can and WILL get better. Visualise what you want, work out the steps you need to take to get there, and just dive in headfirst. Amazing things will follow.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! May this be your time to realise your worth and achieve some of those dreams. You can absolutely do it, and nobody but you can make it happen.

XOXO
